Much love to you all.
Christmas Invasion
Nov 18
This was a super fun piece to put together. Faithbridge contacted me about illustrating a mailer cover for their upcoming sermon series during Christmas. The series revolved around spiritual warfare during the holiday season.
hurray for dragons!
Step Write Up
Nov 13
I recently had the opportunity to work with MNSCU on a really fun illustration project for Step Write Up. The project consisted of 5 characters that will guide students through different phases of the website. This project was graciously provided by Red Zest Design. The most exciting aspect of this project is the fact that these illustration will eventually be animated! How cool is that!
Chasing Clarence album art
Aug 03
Chasing Clarence is the musical project of my friend Eric Bervig. Do take the time to listen to his music, its extremely honest. I had the priveledge of creating the art work for his website, promotional materials, and album art. ”a tempo” is his debut album as Chasing Clarence. The idea is that we create a atmosphere of return, since a tempo means to return to the previous tempo. The fuzzy aspect of this piece is to show that his direction isn’t set in stone, yet he still moves forward towards his goals.
Harold the friendly troll
Jul 24
“A rather somber Harold stood quietly as he poured himself a cup of tea. The morning was looking up. It was going to be a good day…”
So the other day I had this funny vision of a friendly troll living under Irvine bridge. He was one of those creatures that everyone feared, yet he was a very kind hearted chap. He even enjoys a good cup of tea. Here I am again trying this new watercolor process. I do hope you enjoy it
All This For Our King
Jul 09
With camp season well underway I thought I would show you what I have been working on for Deeper Life Bible Camp. The last couple years I have providing a theme for the camp with covers; website, brochure, apparel and a large banner (thanks Christina!) This year’s theme is “All This For Our King”, which gave me an open door for some fun illustrations and typography. DLBC has had a huge influence on my spiritual life over the years and this is one of the ways I like to give back. Hurray for DLBC!
Master Builder
Jul 02
I’m experimenting with this new technique for me and I thought I would share some of my struggles. This piece has been fun but very educational. It didn’t go the direction I wanted it to thus, I am posting what I have and moving on to a new project. Perhaps a giraffe.
Anywho, my buddy Avery loves to build and even though he just plays with blocks in his mind he creates a masterpiece.
Enjoy.
Cheese Please
Jun 08
Cheese Please has been a fantastic learning project. I am developing a new process, that includes both digital and tradition medium. I started with a digital sketch, after looking at elephants for a bit. Elephants are fascinating creatures, and are a joy to draw. I just love their big round shape! The reason this project is such a big deal is because all the texture is from the watercolor. Watercolor and the paper create amazing natural texture and need no supplementary texture, a process that I have been experimenting with.
The Process
- Digital sketching from photo references
- Pencil sketching for final composition and last minute changes
- Final drawing on watercolor paper
- Scan line drawing into Photoshop
- Tradition watercolor over line drawing
- Scan water color into Photoshop
- Line drawing is place over watercolor for line coloring and to help the line stand out
- Color correction and digital painting over the watercolor
Final Line Drawing
Initial digital sketch
