Snap Learning: Connor Plays Soccer

Nov 14

Once again I had the opportunity to work with Snap Learning on a small book.  This story is about Connor and he likes to play soccer. The particular challenge with this project was drawing the same character in sequence. This sequence drawing is quite the stretch for me, and I feel like it was a great exercise in learning this particular skill set. Drawing is a never-ending battle of learning something new. If it wasn’t for client work, I would most certainly be stuck in some sort of rut drawing the same thing over and over. Commissioned illustrations push me to draw things I wouldn’t normally be working on.  This of course expands my arsenal of what I can draw, and allows me to have a rounder skill set.

Lost Lake: SNAP Learning

Sep 19

More from my work with SNAP Learning! I have really enjoyed my fun little projects with them, and I look forward to many more.  This piece was about a class trip to a lake, a Lost Lake that is.  The short story was fun and I had a great time with the silly frog. One of the biggest things I worked on in this project was expression. I have noticed that expression has been rather lacking in my work, and I want to continue to work on that. I don’t want my characters just staring off into space and not interacting or responding to their environments.

The Constitution – Snap Learning

Sep 12

Once again I had the opportunity to work with SNAP Learning on an educational piece about the Constitution. Below are a few pieces from the project.  What really stood out to me about this project was the opportunity to do some pen and ink work. In all honestly, I have never really used a nib and done any washes.  I did discover that I simply adore the process, even if I did get a bit of ink on my carpet ( Sorry, Christina.) The particular line quality is second to none, and I do hope to return to some inking in the future.

Abe Lincoln – Snap Learning

Aug 26

I have had the opportunity to work with SNAP! Learning, an educational and tutoring company out of California, for a couple months now.  The art director, Justin, is great guy to work with and I have enjoyed the various projects he has given me.  With Justin, each new project is a surprise and I never now what it is I will be working on next.  Justin was kind enough to give me permission to share these  instructional booklets illustrations created children of all ages.

One of my favorite pieces to work on with SNAP! Learning to date is one about Abe Lincoln. Abe is simply a crazy looking gentlemen, and he was splendid to draw. As with all illustration we are story telling here.  The images range from stories to vocabulary words.  The main purpose of the booklet is a general  introduction to Abe Lincoln.

Enjoy. More SNAP! Learning to come soon…
