March is Sketchbook Month – Day 14

Mar 14

Day fourteen of March Is Sketchbook Month.  Each day I will be submitting a snap shot of my sketchbook. I’m wanting to continually develop and push my style.  Here is the Biblical prophet Samuel.

Elijah at Mt. Carmel

Feb 09

The showdown between Elijah and the 450 prophets of Baal takes place in 1 Kings 18. The  story is that the Lord wanted Israel to choose either the LORD, with all their hearts, or to follow Baal or Asherah. They had wavered too long and the time had come to make a decision.  The showdown occurs by each side asking their god to answer their prayers by sending fire from heaven to destroy their alters.  After considerable amount of waiting and a bit of jeering on Elijah’s part, he asked the LORD,Yahweh, to send fire down from heaven to prove to Israel that he was indeed God. In a fantastic display of power, the LORD sends down a bolt of fire and completely destroys the alter and everything around it.

I wanted to capture just this moment of jaw dropping wonder, in the brilliant glow of fire from heaven. The piece seemed to work a bit better if I kept things rather simple with only the alter, the mount, and Elijah.

I’m excited to continue creating Biblical pieces that tell fantastic stories from the Bible.

David And Goliath

Jul 12

David and Goliath is such a fantastic story. The  battle between the underdog and the overbearing giant is as exciting as it in insightful into a characteristic of the Lord. Despite all odds the boy is triumphant and wins the day.  I have decided to retell some of my favorite Biblical stories and will be posting my ideas here.  If you are interested in a print please don’t hesitate to let me know.
